Keauhou Veterinary Hospital has put together with their amazing staff and other education contributors, several programs that they take right into the classrooms. Each program is developed for a particular age group and has both written, and hands on activities designed to engage and entertain them. Each program runs approximately one hour.  We often bring either a Canine (Pike) or Feline (Rune) animal for the program. Children love to pet them and interact with them. They connect on a personal level and enjoy the chance to see animals like this in class.

cat_friends.pngRune the cat is a unique cat. She will allow you to pet her and open her mouth, even pet her tongue. She is friendly and fun. She comes to the class in her pink harness and with her sassy cat attitude in check. (she is the cat in front)

Pike the dog is a crazy whippet-pointer cross. He has done basic training and knows both verbal and hand commands. He loves the children and is the perfect gentleman when he is visiting the classrooms. Since he only has one eye children are curios about it and they come to understand that different does not mean bad. In fact sometimes children and adults alike relate to him because they may see something in themselves on the inside that Pike reflects on the outside.
